Reading Phillies Lose 3-2 to Akron Aeros - AA, Eastern League
Sunday, July 13, 2008 at 04:19PM MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Reading, PA -- After a shaky first two innings, veteran right-hander Brett Myers, making his third minor-league start in an effort to regain his form and his confidence, settled down nicely Saturday night. He went eight innings for the Phillies, allowing two earned runs and five hits in a 3-2 loss to the Akron Aeros.
He struck out 10 and walked two in a 118-pitch effort.
It took him 43 pitches to navigate through the first two innings, when the hot-hitting Aeros gathered all their runs and four of their five hits off Myers, who was saddled with the loss. Relying more on his offspeed stuff, he allowed just two more base runners -- both in the fifth inning, one when the ball caromed off the third-base bag for a double. He retired the last 10 batters he faced.
Following Josh Rodriguez's fourth homer of the season -- on Myers' first pitch of the game -- the Aeros (60-34) got an RBI single from Wyatt Toregas in a two-run first. Two errors -- one by Myers -- led to the third run in the second inning.
The Phillies (38-55) got a run back in the third on Luke Appert's fourth home run. They cut it to 3-2 in the ninth off reliever Scott Roehl on Jake Blalock's RBI single.
Kevin Dixon (8-5), who came in with a 6.23 ERA in two previous starts against the Phillies, allowed a run and six hits in six innings for the win.
