State College Spikes Win Pitching Duel Against the Brooklyn Cyclones 1-0

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – The State College Spikes' pitchers proved dominant Saturday night at KeySpan Park, leading the Spikes to a 1-0 win over the Brooklyn Cyclones.
Four Spikes' pitchers combined for the three-hit shutout.

Ryan Kelly, Yoffri Martinez, Kyle McPherson and Owen Brolsma combined to
allow only three hits and no runs, while striking out a total of six
Brooklyn hitters.

Kelly pitched two complete innings to start things off for the Spikes
(6-18).  Kelly allowed two hits in the outing and struck out two.  The
Spikes gave up only one hit after the second inning.

Martinez (1-0) followed Kelly and earned the win for the Spikes, after
pitching three no-hit innings.  The right-hander struck out two in his
longest outing of the season.

The Spikes scored the only run of the night in the third inning when Andy
Vasquez doubled to left field, scoring Josue Peley who doubled earlier in
the inning.  Andy Vasquez has now hit in all nine games he has played in
with the Spikes.

Kyle McPherson and Owen Brolsma pitched two innings each to complete the
game for the Spikes.  McPherson allowed one hit with one strike out.
Brolsma earned his second save of the season and allowed no hits, striking
out one.

Cole White extended his hitting streak to 11 games after singling in the
fifth inning.  Matt Payne has now reached base safely in all 19 games he
has played in with the Spikes after a sixth-inning single.

Brooklyn starter, Scott Shaw walked away with the loss for the Cyclones.
Shaw went six innings, allowing eight hits and one run while striking out
six Spikes' hitters.

The two teams will face off tomorrow at KeySpan Park in the second game of
