Bowie Baysox Continue Losing Streak with 4-2 Loss to the Harrisburg Senators

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – (Harrisburg, PA) - The Baysox struggled to score again in Harrisburg and suffered their fourth straight loss, 4-2 Sunday afternoon. Kyle Schmidt was called up from Frederick to make the start for Bowie in his second stint with the Baysox this season. Schmidt struggled in the first inning and the Baysox never recovered. Bobby Brownlie improved to a perfect 8-0 on the year for the Senators, going 5.0 innings and allowing just two runs on five hits. Matt Wieters extended his hitting streak to twelve games with an RBI double in the fourth inning.

Bowie got on the board in their first turn at bat when Jonathan Tucker led off the game with a walk. Tucker moved to third on a base hit to right field by Mike Rodriguez and Rodriguez stole second base with Lou Montanez batting. Montanez struck out but Nolan Reimold lifted a fly ball to left field to score Tucker on the sacrifice. Marvin Lowrance fielded it and threw behind Rodriguez at second base for the inning-ending double play, but the run scored before the out and the Baysox took the lead 1-0.

The Senators rallied for three runs with two outs in the bottom of the first. Bill Rhinehart drew a two-out walk and Johnny Estrada hit a single into right field. Luis Jimenez walked to load the bases and Garrett Guzman cleared them all with a three-run triple to the gap in right-center. Schmidt got Lowrance to fly out to end the inning but the Senators jumped ahead, 3-1.

The Baysox got back within a run in the top of the fourth when Lou Montanez led things off with a triple to left-center. After Nolan Reimold struck out, Matt Wieters crushed a double to left field to score Montanez and make the score 3-2 Senators.

Harrisburg got the run back in the bottom of the fourth, but could have come away with much more. Luis Jimenez led off with a base hit into right field and moved to second on a wild pitch by Schmidt. Garrett Guzman drew a walk and Schmidt hit Lowrance with a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Marco Yepez hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Jimenez and Guzman advanced to third. Schmidt got Seth Bynum to strike out and Mike Daniel to fly out to end the threat, but Harrisburg took a 4-2 lead.

Baysox relievers Rommie Lewis and Ryan Keefer each pitched well in the loss, combining for four shutout innings and only allowing two hits.

The two-run lead was enough for the Senators bullpen as Beltran Perez, Carlos Martinez, and Adam Carr combined for four shutout innings. Carr pitched a perfect ninth inning, striking out two, to earn his seventh save of the year. 

With the loss, the Baysox move to 53-43 on the year, and the Senators climb ahead of Bowie for second place in the Southern Division. The Baysox look to win one from the Senators Monday afternoon as RHP Chris Tillman (7-3, 3.12 ERA) will go up against Harrisburg RHP Jordan Zimmermann (4-2, 3.68 ERA).
