Potomac Nationals Triumph 5-3 over Salem Avalanche - Advanced A, Carolina League

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Salem, VA—The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston
Astros, was outscored by four runs in the middle three innings Sunday
evening in a 5-3 win for the Nationals on Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field
at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium.  Potomac (12-10) scored the final four
runs of the game against Salem (7-15).

The Avalanche steadily climbed into the lead with a run in the first on a

double-play ground ball from Mark Ori and an RBI single from Roberto Mena
in the second.  On the play, Koby Clemens steamrolled catcher Brian
Peacock in order to cross the plate.

Potomac retaliated, though, in the third inning as Boomer Whiting belted a
solo home run with two down against Salem starter Corey Bass.  Then, in
the fourth inning, Potomac cracked back-to-back doubles with Dee Brown and
Aaron Seuss to draw within a run.  Later, a Boomer Whiting sacrifice fly
tied the game.

The Nationals attacked for one more in the fifth against the Salem
bullpen.  A Trevor Lawhorn sacrifice fly got Francisco Plasencia across to
give Potomac the lead.  In the following inning, three consecutive hits
concluded with a Michael Martinez RBI single for the 5-3 final score.

Potomac’s bullpen quieted Salem in the final three innings as Jhonny Nunez
and Martin Beno struck three out and did not allow a baserunner in the
7th, 8th or 9th.

The series continues Monday at 7:07 PM as Salem’s Erick Abreu faces
Potomac’s Ross Detwiler.  Washington’s Ryan Zimmerman is scheduled to play
for Potomac in the game.
