Springfield Cardinals Sweep Doubleheader from Tulsa Drillers 4-2 and 7-3 - AA, Texas League

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Tulsa - The Springfield Cardinals swept a double-header from the first place Tulsa Drillers on Monday night, winning 4-2 in game one, then taking game two by a score of 7-3 in 13 innings at Drillers Stadium in Tulsa.
The Cards and Drillers went a season-long four hours and twenty-four minutes in game two, as Springfield broke through with four runs in the top of the 13th inning.  By the time it was all said and done, both teams had catchers on the hill, doing the pitching.
Springfield used six pitchers in the second game of the double-header, before catcher Matt Pagnozzi (1-0) became the seventh, going the final 2 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the victory.

Andrew Brown broke a 3-3 tie with an RBI double, knocking in Cody Haerther in the 13th to make it 4-3.  With the bases loaded, Pagnozzi delivered the back-breaker, a three-run double to make it 7-3 against Tulsa catcher Brian Esposito (0-1), who was working his fourth inning in relief.
Pagnozzi worked a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the 13th, finishing the night with just one hit allowed, while striking out two batters in his 2 1/3 innings.
Jon Jay, Cody Haerther and Brandon Yarbrough all had three hits for Springfield in game two.
Kyle Mura (2-1) came within one out of a complete-game seven-inning victory in game one.  Leading 4-2 in the seventh, Mura gave up a two-out walk, then a single to Corey Wimberly.  Luke Gregerson came out of the bullpen and threw just one pitch, earning his ninth save of the year by getting Dexter Fowler to ground out.
Springfield trailed 2-0 after one inning, but got even in the second against Drillers’ starter Xavier Cedeno (7-7).  Allen Craig led off the second with a homer, his 16th, making it 2-1.  Cody Haerther picked up a one-out single, then scored on an error, tying the game at 2-2.
Springfield took the lead for good in the fourth, as Mark Shorey brought home Matt Pagnozzi with an RBI double, making it 3-2.
Allen Craig delivered an RBI single with two outs in the seventh, giving the Cards some insurance at 4-2.
The double-header sweep for Springfield ends a two-game losing streak.  The Cards move their second-half record to 12-11, now just one game behind the Drillers and Northwest Arkansas Naturals in the North Division.  Springfield will send Kyle Sadlowski (2-0) to the mound against Tulsa’s Ching-Lung Lo on Tuesday night at 7:05pm, in the second game of the four-game series.
The Redbirds return to Hammons Field this coming Friday, opening up a seven-game home stand against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals and the Arkansas Travelers.
