Esmailin Caridad Pitches Seven Strong Innings in Tennessee Smokies 3-1 Win Over Huntsville Stars

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Huntsville, AL- The Tennessee Smokies (44-52, 17-9) deal past the Huntsville Stars (55-41, 14-12), 3-1 at Joe W. Davis Stadium Wednesday night in front of 1,711. Esmailin Caridad pitched a gem which allowed a couple timely hits in the fourth inning to hold up. The win raises Tennessee’s first place lead to three games in the Southern League North division over the Stars.

The Smokies scored the games first runs in the fourth inning. Matt Camp singled and was bunted to second by Nate Spears. Tyler Colvin followed with a single sending Camp home. Jake Fox stung a base hit to center scoring Colvin to make it 2-0.

Esmailin Caridad (4-1) was fantastic for Tennessee in the start. He went 7 innings of shutout baseball allowing just four hits and one walk with a strikeout on the night.

Jose Ceda (S-6) was brought in to close the doors on Huntsville. He pitched the last two innings and was touched for one run on three hits but still recorded the games save. Ceda did not walk a batter and struck out two.

Brea Wright(6-8) pitched 8 innings and only gave up two runs on 7 hits for the Stars. Wright issued a pair of walks but fanned seven Tennessee batters in the tough luck loss.

The Smokies and Stars play again Thursday Night at Joe Davis in Huntsville. Grant Johnson (1-1, 6.89) will start for the Smokies opposite Troy Cate (2-0, 2.29). Tennessee will return home for a five-game set against the Montgomery Biscuits on Tuesday July22nd through Saturday July 26th. All game times are set for 7:15 pm.
