Jeff Stevens Named to USA Olympic Baseball Team

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Buffalo, NY - USA Baseball today announced that they have selected Bisons RHP Jeff Stevens to the 24-man roster they plan to take to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China later this summer. Stevens played for Team USA in the World Cup in Taiwan in 2007 and recorded the save over Cuba in the championship-clinching game.

Stevens was promoted to the Bisons on June 2 and has pitched in 14 games. He is 0-1 with a 3.92ERA and five saves (20.2IP, 14H, 10R, 9ER, 10BB, 28K). Stevens has averaged over 12 strikeouts per nine-innings pitched and converted five consecutive save opportunities, June 8-24. He began the 2008 season with the Double-A Akron Aeros and was 5-1 with a 2.51ERA and one save in 17 relief appearances (28.2IP, 19H, 8R, 8ER, 11BB, 37K).

Stevens was originally selected by Cincinnati in the 6^th round of the 2005 draft. He was acquired by Cleveland on June 13, 2006 as the player to be named in the April 7, 2006 trade of former Bison Brandon Phillips to the Reds.

Former Bison RHP Mike Koplove was also selected to the team. Koplove, currently in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization, was 4-2 with a 2.50ERA and 14 saves in 51 games with the Bisons last season.
