Kinston Indians, Carlton Smith Dispatch the Frederick Keys in 5-2 Victory

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Carlton Smith pitched seven strong innings, as the K-Tribe beat the Frederick Keys 5-2, at Historic Grainger Stadium. Smith (7-5)won his second game in a row, giving up just six hits and two earned runs, not allowing a
hit past the fourth inning.

Down 2-0, the Indians struck big in the bottom of the fourth with six
straight men reaching to score three runs. Carlos Rivero drove in Beau Mills
with an RBI-double to plate the first run. Cirilo Cumberbatch tied the game
with a bases loaded hit-by-pitch, and Alex Castillo's RBI-single gave the
Indians a 3-2 lead they would not relinquish. In the fifth inning, an
RBI-single by Mills plated Johnny Drennen, and Mills came home on a
run-scoring double by Jason Denham. Denham went 3-for-3, posting his 13th
multi-hit game of the season and his first three hit outing.

The K-Tribe now improves to 16-11 on the season, just a half game back of
Myrtle Beach for first place in the Carolina League Southern Division's
second half.  Kinston will end the series and homestand Saturday night at
Historic Grainger Stadium.  Shawn Nottingham (1-1, 3.13) will take the hill
for Kinston for the 7pm start.  Saturday night is Grady Sizemore T-shirt
night at the ballpark, with the first one thousand fans getting the former
K-Tribers collectable.
