Binghamton Mets Hang on to Beat Altoona Curve 5-2 - AA, Eastern League

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - ALTOONA – A late Curve rally was thwarted in the ninth inning as the Binghamton Mets were able to hang on to a 5-2 win at Blair County Ballpark Tuesday night.

Altoona (35-47) brought home a pair of runs on a two-run single from James Boone to come within three, and brought the tying run to the plate. However, Eddie Kunz was able to notch his 22nd save of the season to send the Curve to their seventh loss in their last nine games.

Binghamton (47-36) held a 5-0 lead before the Curve comeback, scoring three runs off starting pitcher Derek Hankins (1-5).  Hankins, over 4 2/3 innings punched out four batters and surrendered six hits.

SeatSub Challenge 2008 ContestThe B-Mets plated a single run in the first before a pair of runs scored in the top of the second off of the Curve right-hander.

Against reliever Pat Bresnehan, Binghamton brought across a run in the top of the seventh, before Josh Shortslef gave up a single run in the eighth.

So far this year Binghamton has owned the season series against Altoona.  Tuesday's win was the fifth victory for the Mets in six contests against Altoona.

Altoona will look to solve the Binghamton mystery on Wednesday at 7:05.  Right-hander Yoslan Herrera (4-7, 3.12) returns to start for the Curve after making a spot-start for Indianapolis (AAA).  Binghamton will send southpaw Jonathon Niese (5-5, 3.14) to the hill.

Tuesday, the infamous Irish Pat's Used Car Giveaway will take place at BCB.  The award-winning Director of Sports Turf Management for the Curve will take on the likeness of a Leprechaun as the area's "finest" autos will be given away to a handful of very lucky winners.

Wednesday is also a Giant Eagle Advantage Card Night at BCB.  Fans who present their Advantage Card to the box office can buy one outfield reserve seat at regular price and receive a second one, free.

To reserve tickets for Tuesday's game, or any of the remaining games of the Curve's current homestand, which lasts through Monday can be obtained over the phone at 877-99-CURVE, online at AltoonaCurve.com or in person at the Blair County Ballpark box office.

NOTES – Jonel Pacheco extended his hitting streak to six games with a 1-for-5 performance…Pat Bresnehan tossed two innings in relief, it was his longest outing since he tossed three innings on April 16 at Trenton…Tuesday was starting pitcher Derek Hankins' 25th birthday.
