Error-Prone Lancaster JetHawks Fall to High Desert Mavericks 10-5
Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at 11:29AM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – (ADELANTO, CA) – The JetHawks have been able to keep afloat over the past week even as their defense has fizzled, but they could not overcome their four errors Tuesday night in Adelanto. The errors led to four heartbreaking unearned runs as High Desert pulled away at the end to defeat Lancaster 10-5.
An error helped the Mavericks rough up Travis Beazley in the first inning. High Desert also got four singles and scored five times in the opening frame.
Trailing by six runs at one point, Lancaster closed the gap late. Lars Anderson’s solo homer in the sixth inning started the comeback. A series of doubles led to three runs in the seventh inning as Zak Farkes, Jason Place, and Aaron Reza each knocked two-baggers to lead Lancaster to within two runs.
ADVERTISEMENT Unfortunately, the JetHawks chances were hurt by another error, this time in the eighth inning. If not for the error, it would have been a 1-2-3 inning for Jason Blackey, but the error extended the inning and led to a three-run home run to help the Mavericks pull away.
Blackey was strong in relief, despite allowing the three unearned runs. He struck out six batters in three innings, include four in one frame because of a wild pitch. Anderson and Josh Reddick each had two hits in the loss.
