Lexington Legends Down Kannapolis Intimidators 5-3 in 11 Innings - Advanced A, South Atlantic League
Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at 09:04AM MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Kannapolis, NC - The Intimidators' seven-game winning streak came to a close to Lexington falling 5-3 in 11 innings. It was the second straight night the Intimidators (9-4) and Legends went to extra innings at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.
Intimidators? reliever Tyson Corley (0-3) gave up two runs in the 11th to fall behind 5-3. Lexington had runners at first and second with an out when Craig Corrado laced a single to right field to bring in Dixon from second to take a 4-3 lead. The Legends put down a squeeze bunt to follow from Bryan Brown to go in front 5-3.
Kannapolis started the scoring in the fifth inning with Dale Mollenhauer tripling in Sergio Miranda from first for a 1-0 lead. Eduardo Escobar followed with a sacrifice fly to bring in Mollenhauer to make it 2-0.
Lexington took a 3-2 edge in the eighth inning before the Intimidators mounted a rally in the bottom of the ninth.
With one away in the ninth, Christian Marrero singled to center. Two batters later (with two outs) Sergio Miranda worked a walk to place runners at first and second.
The loss spoiled another great start from Jason Rice. Rice tossed 5.2 innings giving up four hits and a run while walking three and striking out five. Rice had won his previous for starts but settled for a no-decision.
The Intimidators continue the homestand with the Lake County Captains coming into town tomorrow night. The two play four games including fireworks nights on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of July. For tickets call 704-932-FANS or go online to intimidatorsbaseball.com.
