Harrisburg Senators Power Past Altoona Curve 5-1 - AA, Eastern League
Sunday, July 20, 2008 at 08:08AM MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - ALTOONA - Harrisburg used a three-run sixth inning to power past the Altoona Curve by the score of 5-1 on Saturday night in front of 7,523 at Blair County Ballpark.
The Curve led early in the contest, grabbing a 1-0 lead by way of a Luis Cruz RBI single. Cruz has now driven in nine runs in his last eight games. That’s all Altoona would get, as Harrisburg scored five unanswered runs.
Starter Dan Reichert (0-1) suffered the loss in his Curve debut. Reichert allowed a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning off Ofilio Castro’s bat which tied the score, 1-1.
Four-straight Senators reached in the top of the sixth to extend the Harrisburg lead to 4-1. Three singles and a walk were the undoing of Reichert, who was making his Curve debut after he was traded over to the Pirates from the Cleveland Indians on July 10.
Reichert lasted 5 2/3 innings and struck out four batters while allowing the four runs.
Harrisburg added an insurance run off Jeff Sues in the top of the ninth to take a 5-1 lead and put the game away.
Senator’s righty Craig Stammen (3-1) held the Curve bats to just three hits over six innings of work. Stammen struck out six. It’s his second win this season against Altoona.
The Curve will look to even the series against Harrisburg in the finale on Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. Altoona will send left-hander Kyle Bloom to the hill, who is in search of his third-straight win. Harrisburg will counter with righty Jordan Zimmerman (4-2, 3.45)
