Jacksonville Suns Score 6-2 Victory Over West Tenn Diamond Jaxx - AA, Southern League

JACKSON, Tenn. – Lucas May belted a three-run homerun during a four-run first inning, pacing the Jacksonville Suns (46-54, 11-19) to a 6-2 Sunday victory over the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx (52-48, 13-17) in front of 1,177 at Pringles Park.

West Tenn won the series three games to two, with the season series against West Tenn finishing five games to five.

The Suns struck with a four-run first inning against West Tenn starter Ryan Ketchner, a Southern League All-Star with Jacksonville during 2004. Lucas May belted a three-run homerun in the third at-bat of the game, while an Adam Godwin single plated James Tomlin for a 4-0 lead. Jacksonville added an unearned run against Ketchner in the second inning as West Tenn shortstop threw wildly after a Tomlin grounder with two out, allowing Mark Bellhorn to score for a 5-0 advantage.

In the losing decision, Ketchner (7-6) allowed five runs, four earned, on seven hits with three walks and one strikeout.

Jacksonville starter Jesus Castillo (7-4) pitched five innings allowing one run on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts. West Tenn’s Brent Johnson scored after a double and two wild pitches in the fifth inning for the only blemish against Castillo.

West Tenn added a second run in the eighth inning against Suns reliever Brent Leach as Adam Moore doubled home Johan Limonta for a 5-2 score. Leach recorded four strikeouts in the inning, including a strike three wild pitch to start the frame. It was the first a Suns pitcher struck out four in an inning since Hong-Chih Kuo struck out four Huntsville Stars on June 26, 2005.

The Suns added a ninth inning insurance run against West Tenn reliever Marwin Vega on a Jamie Hoffmann fielder’s choice, ending the scoring at 6-2.

Suns RH Jesus Rodriguez will face Mobile BayBears RH Matt Green Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. ET at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. Fans can enjoy the Fifty-Cent Family Feast. For tickets call the Suns box office at (904) 358-2846 or visit jaxsuns.com.
