Altoona Curve Sweep Doubleheader with the Akron Aeros, 3-2 and 5-3

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com –

ALTOONA - The Altoona Curve played a pair of solid baseball games against the Eastern League’s top team on Monday night at Blair County Ballpark.  Altoona grabbed a sweep of the Akron Aeros, as the Curve prevailed 3-2 in eight innings in the first contest and were winners 5-3 in the nightcap.

The Curve (45-56) have won three in a row and are off to a 3-2 start to their nine-game homestand.

In the nightcap, Brian Holliday, (1-1) a Pittsburgh native from Moon Township tossed a seven-inning complete game.  It was just Holliday’s second Double-A start of his career.

Altoona scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth as part of a four-hit attack against Akron starter Jim Deters (0-3).  Highlighting the scoring was Brad Corley’s two-run home run – his 11th of the year.  The Curve would tack on a run for good measure in the bottom of the sixth.  Newcomer Angel Gonzalez doubled home Luis Cruz to provide Altoona with an insurance run.

In the first game, James Boone delivered a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Curve to a 3-2 victory. Boone finished the game 3-for-4 with two RBI in the win, Altoona’s fifth in the last seven games.

Ronald Belisario (4-1) pitched two scoreless innings to earn the victory for Altoona. Erik Stiller (5-3) allowed the game-winning run to suffer the loss.

With that win, the Curve improved to 7-1 in extra inning games and 22-11 in one-run contests with the win.

The Curve return to the field on Tuesday for the third game of the series against Akron at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Derek Hankins (1-6, 4.26) looks for his second win of the year for Altoona while Akron will send righty Steven Wright (1-1, 6.00) to the hill.

The Amazing Christopher will be on hand to entertain fans on Singles Night and 70’s Disco Night.  Great seats for Tuesday’s game and the remaining games of the Curve homestand still remain and can be obtained over the phone by calling 877-99-CURVE, online at AltoonaCurve.com, or in person at the BCB ticket windows.

NOTES –
On Monday, Brian Holliday was making his second Double-A start of his career.  Holliday made a spot-start for Altoona on May 4 versus against Erie in game two of a double-header.  Holliday lost that start, lasting just 3 2/3 innings against the SeaWolves…Angel Gonzalez, playing has played in just three Double-A games since making his Curve debut on Sunday versus Harrisburg.  Gonzalez is 3-for-10 with a pair of runs scored.
