West Sacramento, Calif. – Las Vegas forced a series split against Sacramento on Monday night as the 51s defeated the River Cats 5-4 at Raley Field. The River Cats’ division lead over second-place Las Vegas is now 7.5 games in the Pacific Coast League Pacific South standings. First baseman Casey Rogowski was 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Five Sacramento pitchers allowed five earned runs on 10 hits and two walks. Starter Chris Gissell, who pitched out of the bullpen before the All-Star break, threw just 3.0 innings on a pitch count and allowed two earned runs. Infielder Cliff Pennington reached base on an infield single to leadoff the ninth but was stranded at first as Mike Koplove struck out the next three River Cats hitters to earn his ninth save of the season. The River Cats begin an eight-game road trip on Tuesday at Albuquerque before traveling to face the Round Rock Express in Texas. If you like the daily news of the Raw Feed, SUBSCRIBE TODAY to the nation's only alternative professional sports magazine, SZ, with original features and great action photography in baseball, hockey, basketball, and football.
