MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com –

New Britain, CT – Reading’s Tyson Brummett out-dueled Jeff Manship to lead the Phillies to a 3-1 victory over the Rock Cats on Monday night.

Manship (1-5, 4.50) tossed six solid innings, limiting the R-Phils to two runs (1 ER) on five hits. He struck out four. Brummett (2-3, 4.05) one-upped him with one run and four hits over six innings. He also struck out four, but walked five batters.

Reading took an early 1-0 lead in the first when Luke Appert led off with a single and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Greg Golson. In the second, Kevin Nelson knocked in Neil Sellers with a single for a 2-0 advantage.

In the third, Drew Butera and Dustin Martin opened the inning with back-to-back walks. Danny Valencia then singled to center field to score Butera and cut the lead in half, 2-1.

The R-Phils scored once more in the seventh. Zach Ward walked leadoff man Brad Harman, who stole second base. Ward forced a ground out but then issued two consecutive walks to load the bases. Jason Donald’s sacrifice fly scored Harman for a 3-1 lead.

Justin Pope notched his fourth save of the season with a perfect ninth.
