Frederick Keys Fall to 1-6 on Road Trip with 3-2 Loss to Myrtle Beach Pelicans

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com -

FREDERICK, Md. - Myrtle Beach 2B Travis Jones did it all. With a big eighth inning home run, a run saving diving catch and a walk-off hit the Keys saw themselves on the short end of a dramatic 3-2 game finishing the season series with Myrtle Beach.

The Keys could not get enough run support for starter Jake Arrieta who was dominant, going seven shutout innings while striking out eight batter before leaving with a 1-0 lead. The ballgame is Arrieta's final start with Frederick before heading to the Olympic games to pitch for Team USA.

Jones would spoil the going away party though with a two-run eighth inning home run to give Myrtle Beach the lead at 2-1.

Frederick would not go away rallying in the ninth inning. C Justin Johnson led off the inning doubling high off the right field wall. Then SS Jason White's sacrifice attempt was thrown into right field by Pelicans reliever Nick Fellman scoring Johnson to tie the ballgame.

After another throwing error on Fellman on a failed pick-off attempt moved White to third base the Keys could not bring him home. With 1B Brandon Snyder at the plate and two outs he sent a drive to shallow center field. Jones was there again making a diving catch with his back to the infield to keep the game knotted at 2-2.

In the bottom of the ninth Pelicans CF Gorkys Hernandez doubled down the line in left field. Next up was Jones who dunked

a single in to center field scoring Hernandez and starting another celebration in Myrtle Beach.

The Keys return home to take on the Potomac Nationals Friday, July 25th at 7:00 p.m. with fireworks following the contest. Jake Renshaw (7-9, 5.36) will be atop the hill for Frederick.
