Lancaster JetHawks Take 5-4, 11-Inning Decision Over Lake Elsinore Storm

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - LANCASTER , CA ) It took three times pulling ahead and it took eleven innings, but the JetHawks finally put away the Lake Elsinore Storm 5-4 Thursday night at Clear Channel Stadium. A RBI infield single by Jason Place served as the game-winning hit to help the JetHawks avoid getting swept by the Storm. The JetHawks are now a perfect 3-0 in extra innings games this year.

Lancaster took an early lead on a pair of solo home runs by Zak Farkes. The Storm came back to tie the game in the fifth, but Jon Still’s sacrifice fly gave the JetHawks a second lead in the seventh inning. It looked like Tony Bajoczky would earn a win. Bajoczky allowed just three runs over seven solid innings, making seven quality starts in his last eight games. However, the Storm came up with a game-tying single to force extra innings.

Jason Blackey held the Storm scoreless in the tenth and eleventh innings, giving the JetHawks a chance to win. They caught a break in the eleventh when a hard-hit grounder by Yamaico Navarro got past the first baseman into right field. Navarrro ended up at third base. Place hit a grounder of his own down the third base line. Storm third baseman Keoni Ruth tried to hurry the ball to first, but Place beat it out to give the JetHawks the win.

The JetHawks continue a six-game homestand Friday night against High Desert. Blake Maxwell (3-4) starts for Lancaster while the Mavericks counter with Anthony Varvaro (2-6).
