Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees Split Doubleheader with Richmond Braves Losing Game One 6-3 and Taking Game Two 4-1 - AAA, IL

Moosic, PA- The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees and the Richmond Braves split a doubleheader at PNC Field on Thursday. The Braves took the first game 6-3, as the offense smashed fourteen hits and the pitching staff fanned eleven. TheYankees took the second game 4-1 as Ben Broussard drilled his second three run homerun of the night in extra innings to give the Yankees three of the four in the series.
In the first game, the Yankees exploded in the second with a three run homerun by Broussard to take the early lead. The Braves answered back in the fourth with a Carl Loadenthal RBI single and a ground out by Clint Sammons, making the game 3-2. A Barbaro Canizares RBI single tied the game in the fifth. Derrick Arnold had a two RBI double in the sixth, giving the Braves their first lead of the game. Diory Hernandez added another run in the seventh with an RBI single.
Jonathon Rouwenhorst picked up the win. Ross Ohlendorf took the loss. Jorge Julio was awarded the save.

In the second game, an Alberto Gonzalez RBI single in the fifth gave Scranton a 1-0 lead. The Braves had their first hit and run of the game in the seventh to send the game into extra innings as Scott Thorman hit a double which scored Canizares. In the bottom of the eighth, Broussard smashed a three run homerun, his second of the night, to give the Yankees the win and a split of the doubleheader.
Scott Strickland picked up the win. Ryan Basner took the loss.
The Braves return to The Diamond Friday, July 25th to face the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at 7pm. LHP Chuck James is slated to pitch for the Braves against LHP Brian Mazone.
