Down on the Farm - Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Announce Minor League Report for July 1, 2008

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – SALT LAKE BEES (Class AAA) - Pacific Coast League - Record 51-33, 1st
The Salt Lake Bees took advantage of a franchise-record four extra-base hits by 2B Sean Rodriguez in a 9-6 win over the Las Vegas 51s (Dodgers’ affiliate).  Rodriguez, who hit a two-run home run in the first inning, also added a solo homer in the eighth and doubles in the third and the fifth innings.  It was the second straight game that the Bees’ homered four times as 1B Freddy Sandoval and 3B Matt Brown also hit round-trippers.  RHP Shane Loux (10-4) picked up the win, allowing five runs (four earned) on 11 hits in 6.1 innings with four strikeouts and one walk.  RHP Kevin Jepsen gave up one unearned run in 2.2 innings for his second save. 
ARKANSAS TRAVELERS (Class AA) - Texas League - Record 4-8 (1st Half 36-34, T1st)
        The Arkansas Travelers, who were held hitless until the sixth inning, gave up 15 hits in a 10-1 loss to the Frisco Rough Riders (Texas affiliate).  The Travelers finished with six hits, including a solo home run by C Ben Johnson.  RHP Bobby Mosebach (6-7) gave up eight runs on 10 hits and two walks in seven innings for the loss.
RANCHO CUCAMONGA QUAKES (Class A)-California League - Record 7-5 (1st Half 30-40, 5th)

 

 

 

SeatSub Challenge 2008 Contest         The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes moved back into a tie for first place with a 6-3 win over the Inland Empire 66ers (Dodgers’ affiliate).  RHP Amalio Diaz (6-4), who retired 10 straight batters until the fifth inning, gave up three runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out two in seven innings.  RHP David Herndon earned his seventh save with a perfect ninth.  3B Wil Ortiz had two hits (including a triple) and two RBI.
CEDAR RAPIDS KERNELS (Class A) - Midwest League - Record 9-4 (1st Half 32-36, 5th)
        The Cedar Rapids Kernels came from behind—scoring four runs in the seventh and two in the eighth—to take a 7-4 win over the Quad Cities River Bandits (St. Louis affiliate).  RF Julio Perez had two hits, including a home run, and three RBI to extend his hit streak to 10 games.  LHP Trevor Reckling (6-2) gave up three runs on six hits and one walk with seven strikeouts in seven innings.  RHP Eddie McKiernan recorded his eighth save with a perfect ninth. 
OREM OWLZ (Rookie) - Pioneer League - Record 11-4
The Orem Owlz scored four runs in the eighth inning to snap a 2-2 tie and held on for a 6-2 win over the Idaho Falls Chukars (Kansas City affiliate).  3B Luis Jimenez had two hits, including a double, and one RBI.  LF Roberto Lopez went 1-for-2 to increase his Pioneer League-leading batting average to .492.  LHP Will Smith started and struck out seven in 5.1 innings.  RHP Kevin Nabors (2-0) got the win in relief with three strikeouts in 2.2 innings. 
TEMPE ANGELS (Rookie) - Arizona League - Record 5-3
The rookie-level Angels held a 5-4 lead before giving up two runs in the seventh inning of a 6-5 loss to the Athletics.  RHP Robin Molina (0-1) took the loss in relief as he allowed two runs on two hits in 1.1 innings.  Offensively, SS Kevin Ramos drove in two runs with two hits and RF Alexia Amarista added three singles.
