Erie SeaWolves Drop 10-6 Game to the Akron Aeros for Third Straight Loss
Thursday, July 3, 2008 at 12:05PM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – The SeaWolves dropped their third straight game to the Akron Aeros, 10-6 on Wednesday night at Jerry Uht Park.
Akron jumped ahead of Erie starter Luke French in the top of the first inning. Brandon Pinckney led off the game with a solo home run for a 1-0 Aeros lead.
Akron would build a 3-0 lead in the second. Wyatt Toregas homered for the third time and Bronson Sardinha singled home Pinckney.
In the top of the third, the Aeros would strike again. Matt Whitney led off with a base knock and he scored on Ryan Goleski’s eighth home run of the year. With two down in the inning, Pinckney homered for the second time in the game. The two-home run inning gave Akron a 6-0 lead.
Akron added a seventh run on Toregas’ second home run in the game in the top of the seventh with two outs.
Erie got on the board in the bottom of the seventh. EL All-Star Ryan Roberson led off with his 13th home run of the season against Akron starter Kevin Dixon. The solo-shot over the batters eye in center made it a 7-1 game. Roberson is now tied with teammate and EL All-Star Dusty Ryan for the team lead with 13 long balls. With two outs in the inning, Jeff Kunkel crushed a solo home run, his first in Double-A, off of reliever Reid Santos to make it 7-2.
ADVERTISEMENT In the bottom of the eighth inning, Erie would have a scoring opportunity with the bases loaded with no outs but they could not convert. Will Rhymes and Wilkin Ramirez both singled and Jeff Frazier walked to load the bases. Santos induced a pop fly to center and a pair of strikeouts to end the threat.
Following a three run Akron top of the ninth, Erie would strike back in the bottom half against Jim Deters. Kody Kirkland led off with his fourth triple of the season and scored on a Kunkel sacrifice fly to make it 10-3. Shawn Roof and Will Rhymes both singled to put a pair on for Ramirez. Ramirez popped out for the second out. Frazier then grounded to short, and on the play, an error by Pinckney at short allowed Roof to score to make it 10-4. Deik Scram walked to load the bases for Roberson. Roberson singled to the right-center gap, plating both Rhymes and Frazer to make it 10-6. Deters got out of the inning with a strikeout to end the game.
French (5-8) failed to win back-to-back games for the first time this season. He went 5.2 innings, allowing six runs on 12 hits with a pair of walks and four strikeouts.
