Inland Empire 66ers Pound Out 21 Hits in 18-8 Romp Over Rancho Cucamonga Quakes
Thursday, July 3, 2008 at 03:25PM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Rancho Cucamonga , CA - Inland Empire didn’t waste any time getting to the Quakes and starter Jeremy Haynes as they struck for four runs in the first inning highlighted by an Austin Gallagher RBI ground out and a three run home run by Drew Locke to lead 4-0.
Rancho came back to cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the inning with a double by Peter Bourjos, an RBI single by Ryan Mount and an RBI double by Wil Ortiz to make the lead just 4-2.
The 66ers added three more runs in the 2nd on a one out RBI triple by Jaime Pedroza, an RBI double by Carlos Santana and an RBI single by Gallagher to grab a 7-2 lead.
The Quakes got another run in the second on a two-out RBI double by Ortiz to trail 7-3.
In the 3rd, Inland Empire would knock out starter Jeremy Haynes after scoring one more time to swell the lead to 8-3.
Rancho answered with another single run in the 3rd on an RBI triple by Anthony Norman to trail 8-4.
Back came the 66ers in the fourth with two runs against reliever Bobby Cassevah on a one-out RBI double by Drew Locke and a two-out RBI single by Justin Fuller to make the lead 10-4.
The Quakes would not be held down as they plated three more in the bottom of the inning on and RBI single by Mount and back to back RBI double by Mark Trumbo and Larry Infante to bring it to a 10-7 score.
Inland Empire would not be denied of more offense plating three runs with two outs against major league rehabber Chris Bootcheck in the 5th on a two-run double by Tommy Giles and an RBI single by Scott Van Slyke to bring the score to 13-7. They would add another in seventh on back to back doubles from Locke and Giles to lead 14-7.
The 66ers continued to pile on the runs in the 8th inning against reliever Brian Chambers plating four more runs highlighted by a two-run home run by Santana, an RBI triple by Tommy Giles and an RBI single by Van Slyke to make the score 18-7.
Rancho’s offense sputtered after Josh Wall was taken out in the 4th inning, amassing just two hits against the bullpen and scored just one run in the ninth against Jordan Pratt to bring the score to 18-8.
Rancho will try for the series split Thursday against the 66ers as they send right hander Sean O’Sullivan to the mound in search of his ninth win of the year against left hander Alberto Bastardo of the 66ers. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm .
