Kyle Mura Wins Double-A Debut in Springfield Cardinals 7-3 Win Over the Frisco RoughRiders

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Frisco, Tx. -Kyle Mura won his Double-A debut and Jose Martinez drove in five runs, as the Springfield Cardinals defeated the Frisco RoughRiders by a score of 7-3 on Thursday night at Dr. Pepper Ballpark in Frisco.

Mura (1-0) went five scoreless innings, allowing just four hits in his first game since being called up from Palm Beach. The right-hander, a 42nd round pick back in the 2006 June draft, struck out two and didn’t walk a batter.

Jose Martinez had three hits and five RBIs, including his fifth homer of the year, a three-run shot in the fourth to put Springfield up 7-0.

The Cards got to Frisco starter Trey Hodges early, as Martinez drove home Jim Rapoport with an RBI single in the first, then scored on a sac fly off the bat of Mark Shorey, making it 2-0.

Martinez struck again in the second, singling home Casey Rowlett from third for a 3-0 lead against Hodges (6-6).

Shorey, who finished the night with three hits and two RBIs, blasted his seventh homer of the year in the third, as Springfield increased their lead to 4-0.

The Cards’ second baseman capped the Springfield scoring with a three-run line drive into the left-field seats in the fourth, making it a 7-0 affair.

Frisco got a run in the sixth off Scott Vander Weg, as Elvis Andrus doubled and scored on Ben Harrison’s RBI single, making it a 7-1 game.

The RoughRiders got two in the bottom of the ninth against Josh Dew, tightening it to 7-3. With two on and two away, Fernando Salas was called upon to face All-Star Game MVP Steve Murphy, who flew out to the warning track to end the game, giving Salas his league-best 14th save of the year.

Springfield (7-5) is still tied with Tulsa atop the North Division second-half standings. The Cards will look to make it two straight over Frisco on Friday night, sending Adam Daniels (1-2) to the mound against Frisco left-hander Michael Ballard (7-3). Game time for the second game in the series will be 7:00pm on Friday night. The Cards are on the road until Thursday, July 10th, as they come back to Hammons Field to host the Northwest Arkansas Naturals in a four-game home stand.
