Vancouver Canadians Defeat Boise Hawks 7-4 - A Short Season, Northwest League

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Vancouver - The Canadians opened the scoring in the top of the 2nd inning when RF Jeremy Barfield hit a double off of the left field wall and was scored by SS Jason Christian who hit a two-run homer to right giving the C's a 2-0 lead.

The C's dodged a bullet in the bottom of the 3rd when the Hawks loaded the bases with one out and DH Josh Vitters at the plate.  Vitters came into the game with a .386 average and a 11-game hitting streak but hit into any inning ending double play.

Vancouver extended their lead in the top of the 5th when C Dante Love hit a two-run home run to left field off of Hawks starter RHP Josh Whitlock giving the C's a 4-0.

The Hawks got on the bottom of the 5th after C's 2B Ryne Jernigan booted a ball literally as he had the hardly hit ball skip off his foot and scoot into center field allowing 3B Marwin Gonzalez the chance to advance all the way to second on the error.  The C's did concede that run, but 3B Francisco Tirado make a wonderful defensive play on a hard hit ball down the line, and LHP Pedro Figueroa struck out 2B Jake Opitz to end the inning having only given up the lone run, 4-1 C's.

Boise made it a one-run ball game in the bottom of the 8th when 1B Rebel Ridling managed any infield single that got past 1B Dusty Napoleon allowing DH Josh Vitters to score making it 4-3.  C's closer RHP Jose Guzman came in to face pinch hitting 2B Josh Harrison who hit a single to center field scoring Rebel Ridling tying the game 4-4.  Hamilton was thrown out trying to stretch his hit into a double.

Canadians SS Jason Christian stepped up in the top of the 9th and hit his second home run of the night, this one over the center field fence giving the C's a 5-4 lead.  NOTE:  First time a Canadians has had a multi-home run gane since 1B Dan Hamblin hit a pair on 7/16/07.  The C's then loaded the bases and DH David Thomas hit a two-run single to center giving the Canadians a 7-4 lead.

RHP Jose Guzman closed out the game for his 1st win of the season and gives the C's their fourth win in the past five games and move into a tie for second in the NWL West division after both Eugene and Everett lost Thursday night.  The C's remain three games back of first as Salem-Keizer picked up a win over Tri City.  Vancouver is 7-10 with the win.
