Stockton Ports Hold Off Lancaster JetHawks 8-4 - Advanced A, California League
Saturday, July 5, 2008 at 12:50PM MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - LANCASTER, CA – A sold-out crowd of 5,871 fans kept the energy level high throughout Friday's Fourth of July Independence Day Celebration at Clear Channel Stadium. Unfortunately, they did not get to cheer on a JetHawks win. The Stockton Ports put up five runs in the third inning and then held on to defeat Lancaster 8-4 in front of the biggest crowd of the season to see a JetHawks home or road game this season. Lancaster has now lost four consecutive games.
Chih-Hsien Chiang's sacrifice fly put the JetHawks up 1-0 in the second inning but the lead did not last long. Stockton used six hits and a walk to score five runs in the third inning off Lancaster starter Blake Maxwell. They might have scored more had the JetHawks not turned a double play to end the inning.
The JetHawks closed the gap on two more Chiang RBI's to make the game 5-3. They had the tying runners aboard in the eighth inning when a controversial call ended the inning on a double play. The Ports then scored three more times in the ninth inning to pull away. Lancaster kept it interesting by scoring a run and then loading the bases in the ninth, but fell short.

ADVERTISEMENT Chiang drove in three runs and singled to extend his hitting streak to ten consecutive games. Daniel Nava reached base safely four times, includling three times on hits with a double and a pair of singles. Jon Still tallied three hits, including his first triple of the season, and drove in a run. Lars Anderson had two hits. Pitcher Felipe Garcia made his JetHawks debut in impressive fashion, retiring six of the seven batters he faced in two scoreless frames. Garcia struck out three.
