Adam Witter Hits Two Dingers to Help New Britain Rock Cats Past the Connecticut Defenders

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com –New Britain, CT – Adam Witter hit two home runs and the pitching staff shut down the Rock Cats to lead the Defenders to a 5-0 victory at New Britain Stadium. 

Jay Rainville returned to the mound for the Rock Cats after making two starts for the Ft. Myers Miracle. In the first inning, Rainville served up an inside-the-park home run down the right field line to Antoan Richardson that put the Defenders on the board.  

Witter led off the second with a homer over the right field wall. Ben Copeland added an RBI single for a 3-0 lead. Witter went deep again in the sixth inning – this time off reliever Jason Miller – with his second solo shot. Kyle Haines tacked on another run with an RBI double that scored Carlos Sosa, who reached base on a walk, for a 5-0 advantage.

Nate Bump entered the game with a 10-inning scoreless streak against the Rock Cats. He added to that total by firing six scoreless innings. Bump (4-3, 3.06) limited the Rock Cats to two hits while striking out six. Justin Hedrick added 1 1/3 shutout innings with four strikeouts to notch his second save.  

Rainville (5-7, 6.88) finished with three runs on five hits and two walks in five innings.
