Los Angeles Angels Farm Report 7/708

LOS ANGELES - Here’s a look at how the Angels’ farm system fared in yesterday’s action:
 

SALT LAKE BEES (Class AAA) - Pacific Coast League - Record 53-35, 1st
The Salt Lake Bees were limited to just four hits in a 6-0 loss to the Tucson Sidewinders (Arizona affiliate).  Only two Bees’ players collected hits:  3B Freddy Sandoval was 2-for-4 and C Bobby Wilson was 2-for-2 with a double.  RHP Nick Green (4-4) gave up six runs (three earned) on seven hits and three walks with two strikeouts in 5.1 innings.  
ARKANSAS TRAVELERS (Class AA) - Texas League - Record 4-11 (1st Half 36-34, T1st)
        The Arkansas Travelers were swept by the Midland RockHounds (Oakland affiliate), falling 8-4 in the series finale.  It was the Travelers’ fourth straight loss.  C Ben Johnson, who leads the Texas League with 19 home runs and 70 RBI, went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.  RHP Fernando Rodriguez (5-6) got the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and three walks while striking out six in six innings.   
RANCHO CUCAMONGA QUAKES (Class A)-California League - Record 8-8 (1st Half 30-40, 5th)
        The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes gave up a run in the bottom of the ninth for a 3-2 loss to San Jose Giants (San Francisco affiliate).  RHP David Herndon, who replaced RHP Trevor Bell (6-7) in the ninth inning, gave up the one-out, bases-loaded, walk-off single.  RHP Tommy Mendoza started and gave up two runs on four hits in six innings.  SS P.J. Phillips had two hits, including a double.
CEDAR RAPIDS KERNELS (Class A) - Midwest League - Record 11-6 (1st Half 32-36, 5th)
        The Cedar Rapids Kernels allowed only four hits in a 1-0 win over the Kane County Cougars (Oakland affiliate).  RHP Esmerlin Jimenez (4-2) pitched seven scoreless innings, scattering five hits and two walks with six strikeouts in seven innings.  RHP Eddie McKiernan recorded his ninth save with a perfect ninth.  1B Efren Navarro went 3-for-3.  RF Julio Perez hit a solo home run in the seventh inning for the game’s only run (his 10th of the year).
OREM OWLZ (Rookie) - Pioneer League - Record 14-5
The Orem Owlz scored four runs in both the first and fifth innings and then held on for a 9-8 win over the Idaho Falls Chukars (Kansas City affiliate).  The Owlz, who led 9-1 going into the seventh, held off a ninth-inning rally by the Chukars, who scored four runs and left the tying run on second base.  CF Ryan Kiniry went 3-for-4 with a double and RBI.  DH Donato Giovanatto hit a three-run home run.  RHP Buddy Boshers (1-0) got the win, giving up one unearned run on two hits and no walks with five strikeouts in five innings.  RHP Kevin Nabors gave up four runs in the ninth but struck out the final two batters to end the game.
TEMPE ANGELS (Rookie) - Arizona League - Record 7-4
The rookie-level Angels were limited to just one hit in a 6-2 loss to the Giants. The Angels’ lone hit was a triple by CF Demetrius Washington in the fifth inning.  RHP Manuel Flores (1-2) got the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk with three strikeouts in 4.2 innings.
