MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – One of the most popular events Major League Baseball’s All-Star Weekend is the Major League Futures Game, which matches up the top prospects in minor league baseball in a United States vs. World format. While the New York Yankees don’t have any players involved in the game, the organization will have a coach as Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees Pitching Coach Rafael Chaves will serve in the same capacity for the World Team managed by former Yankees star Tino Martinez, who was a prominent member of four World Series winning teams with the Yankees andcurrently serves as a special assistant to Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman.
Chaves, in his first season with the Yankees, spent ten seasons in the Seattle Mariners organization including the 2006 and 2007 seasons at the Major league level as the pitching coach for the Mariners. He will be joined on the World Team’s coaching staff by Iowa Cubs Manager Pat Listach, Toledo Mud Hens Manager Larry Parish, Harrisburg Senators Manager John Stearns, Frisco Rough Riders Manager Scott Little and Birmingham Barons Manager Carlos Subero.

Since the Futures Game began in 1999, 39 participants in the event have gone on to become Major League All-Stars, including Josh Beckett of the Boston Red Sox, Russell Martin of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Jose Reyes of the New York Mets, Grady Sizemore of the Cleveland Indians and Chase Utley of the Philadelphia Phillies.
The 2008 XM Radio Futures Game will be on Sunday, July 13th, at 12:30 p.m. and will be televised live on ESPN 2 as well as ESPN HD.
