Colorado Springs Sky Sox Rally but Fall Short in 6-4 Loss to the Las Vegas 51s

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-4,689 fans at Security Service Field witnessed the Sky Sox rally late but fall short in a 6-4 loss to the Las Vegas 51's.

Through the first three innings of the game it looked as if it was shaping up to be quite the pitching dual as both Matt Belisle (0-1), of the Sox, and David Purcey (2-1), of Las Vegas, had a no-hitter going.

Las Vegas was able to strike first in the fourth, ending Matt Belisle's no-hit bid and shutout, as J.P. Arencibia smacked an RBI single to right giving the 51's a 1-0 lead. The 51's added two more in the inning giving them a 3-0 advantage.

Purcey was excellent, as he didn't surrender a hit until the fifth inning when Edwin Bellorin singled up the middle to center. Purcey didn't give up a run until the eighth inning as the Sky Sox made a rally in an attempt to steal the game away.

The Sky Sox bats came to life in the eighth as Mike McCoy recorded an RBI single to right, driving in Chris Frey, cutting the 51's lead to 6-1. McCoy would be followed by Matt Miller who blasted a ball deep to right driving in two more runs bringing the Sky Sox within three. Purcey would be replaced by Brian Bullington after throwing 7 and 2/3 innings of work allowing two runs on just four hits and striking out nine. Bullington would surrender one more run to the Sox in the eighth, as Miller came around to score on a throwing error by short stop Russ Adams cutting the 51's lead to 6-4.

Las Vegas reliever Jeremy Accardo would, put an end to the Sky Sox bid for a come from behind victory, as he recorded his ninth save of the season sitting the Sox down in order.

The Sox will travel to Salt Lake City where game one against the Salt Lake Bees is scheduled for tomorrow at 7:05 PM MT and will feature right-hander Jason Hirsh (4-3, 5.69) of the Sox versus David Austen (1-3, 5.96) of the Bees.
