MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -

The Springfield’s Joe Mather had all five Cardinal RBIs, including a three-run home run, as they beat the Tulsa Drillers 5-4 Tuesday night. Mather hit his Texas League leading 15th homer in the seventh inning to give the Cards a 5-2 lead.

The Drillers rallied for two runs in the ninth, but that proved not to be enough. Down 5-2 heading into the ninth, Jordan Czarniecki connected for a two-run homer to cut the Cards’ lead to just one run. With two outs, leadoff hitter Corey Wimberly got hit by a pitch to put the tying run on base. However, Jonathan Herrera flied out to left to end the game.

Along with Mather’s three-run homer, he also hit a ground-rule double in the second to score Danilo Sanchez. A sacrifice fly in the fifth gave Mather his other RBI for the day. He ended the night going 2-3.

Tulsa starter Franklin Morales pitched five solid innings, giving up two runs on four hits and three walks, and striking out five. Morales didn’t factor in the decision.

Mitchell Boggs improved his record to 5-3 giving up two runs, one earned in seven innings. He gave up five hits, walked two, and struck out four.

Christopher Perez earned his 13th save of the year pitching the ninth inning.

Czarniecki scored the Drillers’ first run when he scored on a Jonathan Herrera groundout in the third.

The Drillers and Cardinals will continue their series Wednesday night as Cory Rauschenberger (4-3, 5.94 ERA) pitches for Springfield against the Drillers’ Samuel Deduno (1-2, 5.28 ERA). Game time is scheduled for 7:10PM
