Arizona Sundogs Doused by Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 2-1 - CHL Hockey

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - HIDALGO, Texas – The Arizona Sundogs were handed their first loss in franchise history by the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. In their second game against Rio Grande Valley, Arizona’s Ryan Steeves scored one goal and his third of the weekend. Steeves’ score would be the only goal for the Sundogs in the 2-1 loss.

The first period would have the Sundogs trailing for the first time this season as Rio Grande Valley’s Kurtis Dulle put one past the Sundogs’ Kris Mayotte at the 11:58 mark. Both teams would see two power plays each during the period, neither being able to take advantage.

To start the second period, Arizona’s Jordan Mowbray was called for high sticking just 1:12 into the period. Rio Grande Valley needed only 49 seconds to capitalize on the man advantage on an Emery Olauson goal from Bill Newson and Kurtis Dulle. At 6:38 of the second, Arizona scored its first goal of the game on a 5-3 power play by Captain Ryan Steeves, assisted by Dour Orr and Dan Laperriere.

The Killer Bees opened the third period on the power play, resulting from a slashing call on Arizona’s Steeves to close out the second period, but Arizona would kill of the penalty. The third period was a scoreless one with neither team able to tally a goal, ending the game in a 2-1 Killer Bees victory.

Arizona’s Kris Mayotte made his second start of the season, stopping 24 of 26 shots. Arizona finished 1 for 5 on the power play while Rio Grande Valley finished 1 for 7.

The Arizona Sundogs next take on the New Mexico Scorpions on Friday, October 27 in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Game time is set for 6:35pm (Arizona time).
