Bloomington PrairieThunder Cause Kalamazoo Wings to Fly for Cover and a 5-4 Shootout Loss - IHL

MLN Newswire - mlntherawfeed.com - Kalamazoo , MI - Putting on its Sunday’s best, the Kalamazoo Wings and Bloomington PrairieThunder needed to play extra hockey to decide a winner at Wings Stadium.

It was almost a role reversal for the K-Wings, who lost Saturday night in shootout after having a 3-0 lead earlier in the evening. Today, it was Kalamazoo that erased a three-goal deficit, but for the second straight game, the K-Wings came up short in the shootout to lose 5-4 to the Thunder.

Don Parsons figured in all of Bloomington ’s regulation goals, including his opening period power-play goal (5^th) at 3:13 that gave the PrairieThunder a 1-0 lead.

The Thunder rolled in the second period scoring twice. Jason Ralph (5^th) tipped in a rebound 38 seconds into the stanza. As a result of the goal, Kalamazoo replaced starting goaltender Tony Quesada after the netminder allowed two goals on only seven shots. Quesada was replaced by Jeremy Symington, who returned to the lineup after missing the past four games due to injury.

Less than a minute after Symington entered the contest, Parsons (6^th) sent a slap shot past the goaltender to give Bloomington a commanding three-goal cushion.

Making the most of a 5-on-3 power-play, Glenn Detulleo (2^nd, 3^rd) brought the K-Wings back with goal with a pair of goals. Detulleo one-timed a shot past Loic Lacasse at 14:25. Just 59 seconds later, Detulleo on a spinning shot from the slot brought the K-Wings within a single goal at 3-2.

Answering the bell in the third, Jon Booras scored 23 seconds into the period to regain a two-goal lead for the Thunder.

Determined not to give-up, Kalamazoo rallied for two goals in the final six minutes of regulation to force overtime. While on the power-play, John Miller (2^nd) tickled the twine make the score 4-3 Bloomington .

With time running out, Flo Iberer sent a pass up the ice to Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn who blasted a rocket from the right circle with 4.7 seconds remaining to tie the contest at 4-4.

After no scoring in overtime, Bloomington outscored Kalamazoo 2-1 in the shootout to survive 5-4.

By grabbing a point, the K-Wings remain in fourth place in the IHL and are now unbeaten in regulation in its last three games.

Bloomington ’s victory snaps its five-game road winless streak and propels them past Muskegon into fifth place in the league.
