Johnstown Chiefs Can't Complete Comeback Against Dayton Bombers Despite Three Third-Period Goals

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com –

Dayton, OH – Brad Bonello got the Bombers off to a quick start, scoring just 2:05 into the first period on a bang-bang play, snapping a one-timer past the blocker of Chiefs' goaltender Ryan Nie. Matt Beaudoin's wrap around backhander at 16:38 of the first extended Dayton's lead going into the second intermission.

A three goal second period by the Bombers opened up a five-goal advantage heading into the final frame. Brad Bonello started the scoring for Dayton at 4:50 of the second, potting a rebound off of a Ryan Smyth shot. Yannick Tifu put in two consecutive power play goals, one from the right wing and one from the left to extend the Bombers' lead. The first came on a 5-on-3 advantage at 6:35 of the second, while the next was a traditional 5-on-4 power play goal at 13:45. Bomber's goalie Jeremy Duchesne earned an assist on Tifu's second goal.

The Chiefs put up three unanswered goals during the third period with Kris Kasper scoring his second of the year, chipping one over the shoulder of Duchesne. Mike Knight ended the Chiefs string of unsuccessful power plays at 20 with a power play goal at 9:45 of the third, one-timing a snap shot past Duchesne with help from Randy Rowe and Ryan Garlock. Nicolas Bachand finished out the scoring, getting his first pro goal by redirecting a B.J. Crum shot.

Johnstown finished 1-for-5 on the power play while Dayton was 2-for-3. Nie ended up with 19 saves for the Chiefs and Duchesne made 17 for the Bombers.
