Alaska Aces Get Trumped by Florida Everblades 2-0 - ECHL

MLN Newswire - mlntherawfeed.com - ANCHORAGE, AK – The Florida Everblades (4-2-0) picked up a big 2-0 victory over the Alaska Aces (3-2-1) on Saturday night at Sullivan Arena thanks to the goaltending of Tyler Plante. The Everblades rookie net-minder turned away all 31 shots he faced to earn his first professional win and first professional shutout in front of a crowd of 5,504.

A sluggish first period, that featured a couple lengthy delays for repairs to the glass, was controlled by the Aces as they pressured the Everblades throughout the first 20 minutes, and out shot Florida 11-6. Neither team however, tallied a goal in the opening period, sending the game scoreless into the second period. The Everblades came out strong in the second period and pressured the Aces as the period moved along.

The Everblades were rewarded for their strong play, scoring a pair of goal separated by 44 seconds midway through the period. David Cornacchia tallied the first of the goals taking a nice pass from Brad Herauf and deking around Aces net-minder Derek Gustafson and slipping a shot inside the right post for the 1-0 lead at 8:04 . Ryan Van Buskirk notched the second assist on Cornacchia’s first goal of the season. Just 44 seconds later after the Aces missed a scoring opportunity,

Frank MacDonald gave the Everblades a two-goal lead when his shot from the bottom of the right circle found its way past Gustafson and inside the left post. A fast and furious third period saw the Aces out-shoot the Everblades 11-6, but once again the goaltending of Plante came up big, turning away all shots he faced in the frame to allow him to notch the win and the shutout.

Plante improved his record to 1-1-0 on the season, while Gustafson saw his record fall to 1-1-1 after allowing the two goals on 21 shots. On the power play, the Everblades closed out night 0-for-2, while the Aces finished 0-for-5.
