Andrew Ebbett and Brian Salcido each had a goal and an assist for Portland. Tyler Bouck provided some insurance with just 59 seconds remaining before Salcido added an empty-netter. Lowell outshot Portland 31-29, but went 0-for-3 on the power play and 4-of-5 on the penalty kill.
Friday, River Rats 3 vs. DEVILS 0
The Devils were handed their second consecutive shutout as they fell at home to the River Rats. Albany forward Ryan Bayda had a hand in all of the goals, scoring two and assisting on Mark Flood’s game-winner at 13:59 of the second. Bayda put the game away for the River Rats with two goals in a span of 1:55 during the final period. The Devils held the shot advantage once again, 30-29, and also went a perfect 9-for-9 on the penalty kill.
Saturday, WOLF PACK 3 vs. Devils 2 (OT)
Stephen Gionta tipped in a power play goal with 66 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime, but the Wolf Pack prevailed in sudden death on Pierre Parenteau’s game-winner. Petr Vrana’s marker on the man-advantage in the first ended a scoring drought of 170:41 for Lowell. Frank Doyle made 35 saves in the loss, while Noah Clarke notched helpers on both goals by the Devils.
Sunday, DEVILS 4 vs. Pirates 3
Grant Marshall registered the game-winning goal and two assists in downing the Pirates on Sunday afternoon. Trailing 2-0 in the second period, Marshall helped Lowell tie the game, assisting on Jason Rynzar’s marker and Noah Clarke’s power play goal. With the score tied 3-3 with 3:06 left in the game, Marshall’s point shot on the man-advantage proved to be the difference. Parise recorded 28 saves on the night for his third win of the year.
In the standings
The Devils finished the weekend strong, collecting three points in their final two games and ending a five-game winless streak (0-4-1-0). Lowell remains in seventh place in the Atlantic Division, but sits just one point behind the Manchester Monarchs and two back of the Worcester Sharks. With three games in three days this weekend, the Devils have some opportunity to move up the standings.
