Chicago Wolves Go Down 4-3 to Providence Bruins in Top Teams Battle - AHL

MLN Newswire – mlntherawfeed.com - Providence , RI The Providence Bruins defeated the Chicago Wolves 4-3 Friday evening at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in a battle of the top two teams in the American Hockey League . The P-Bruins got their goals from Steve MacIntyre, Matt Hendricks and two goals from Pascal Pelletier. The 19-3-2 Atlantic Division leading P-Bruins are back in action Saturday at The Dunkin’ Donuts Center to take on the Portland Pirates at 7:05 p.m. Providence is now four points ahead of the second place Hartford Wolf Pack with two games in hand.

In the opening period, the P-Bruins got on the board with an even strength goal at the 7:38 mark. Wacey Rabbit sent the puck to the front of the net, where MacIntyre scored top shelf. Chicago tied the game at one at the 16:06 mark. Joel Kwiatkowski scored his fifth goal of the season with Kevin Doell and Jordan LaVallee recording the assists.

After a scoreless second period, the Wolves took their first lead of the game at the 4:21 mark of the second period. LaVallee tallied his eight goal of the season with Nathan Oystrick and Doell grabbing the assists. Providence battled back to tie the game at two. At the 8:59 mark, Martins Karsums passed the puck towards the front of the net for Pelletier. He backhanded the puck into the net past Wolves goaltender Ondrej Pavelec. The P-Bruins retook the lead at the 10:29 mark. Matt Lashoff worked the puck out of his zone starting a 2-on-1 opportunity for Karsums and Pelletier. Karsums passed the puck to Pelletier as he chipped the puck over Pavelec’s right shoulder and into the net. Providence scored a fourth time in the game at the 11:12 mark of the period. Hendricks stole the puck at the Wolves blue line and skated in alone. Pavelec made a move to his right and Hendricks went the opposite way as he snuck the puck between the post and Pavelec’s skate. Chicago pulled within a goal with time running out in regulation. At the 19:25 mark Oystrick scored his third goal of the season with Steve Martins getting the lone assist. Providence held on for the last 35 seconds to pick up the 4-3 victory.

Andy Franck stopped 21 of 24 shots for the P-Bruins, while Pavelec made 24 saves for the Wolves in regulation. The P-Bruins were 0-for-8 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
