Reading Royals Get 1st Win Over Trenton Devils this Year 5-2 - ECHL

MLN Newswire – mlntherawfeed.com - READING, PA (December 7, 2007) – Colin Pepperall’s first tally as a Devil made it a close one in the third, but a late power-play goal would seal the game as the Royals won their first of the season against Trenton, 5-2.

Pepperall’s goal, his 162nd of his career but first in a Trenton uniform, came on the power play 6:12 into the third.  Waiting patiently at the top dot, the veteran sized up his shot and did not miss, beating Reading netminder Terry Denike to the left side of the net.  Helping create the goal was Stephen Wood and Zach Tarkir.  The score made it 3-2 with plenty to play in the third.

The Devils gave up three unanswered goals, but with four seconds remaining in the second found the back of the net to start the comeback.  Eric Castonguay picked up his team-leading 8th goal of the season on a five-on-three power play, rifling a shot through traffic from the bottom point.  Assisted by Ryan Gunderson and Tony Zancanaro, it was Castonguay’s 10th point of the season.

Trenton had come back to win the last time they were in Reading , but the Royals refused to collapse this time around.  At 14:28 into the third Marc Cavosie would complete a three point night (2g, 1a) to make it 4-2 and ice the game.  An empty netter by Bracken Kearns would finalize the score.

Marc Cavosie’s first goal of the game and Dany Roussin’s fourth goal of the season would cap a 21 shot first period for Reading, before Brad Hooton made it 3-0 in the second.

Dave Caruso made 40 saves on 43 shots, coming up huge in several situations where Reading had second and third chances.  But a couple pucks had enough momentum to trickle over his pads and just across the goal line, leading to a tough night for the Trenton netminder.
