MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - PENSACOLA , FL – For the first time in more than a month, hockey fans were treated to a tight defensive battle at The Hangar. In the end, the Gwinnett Gladiators fired a late third period goal and held on to beat the Pensacola Ice Pilots 3-2. It was the first time since early February that the Ice Pilots did not score more than four goals in a game.

The loss spoiled the brilliant goaltending of Evan Lindsay who was outstanding for the Ice Pilots stopping 47 of 50 shots.

It was a penalty filled contest that featured 17 power plays, but just two goal were scored on the man advantage, both by the Gladiators which won their 36th of the season. The Ice Pilots fell for the 39th time and just the 16th on home ice.

Gwinnett took a 1-0 lead deep into the second period before the Ice Pilots tied the game. Eric Johnson tallied a shorthanded marker from Jarred Mohr and Torry Gadja . It was the third shorthanded tally in as many games for the Ice Pilots and the fourth in the last five games.

In the third period, Gwinnett restored a one goal lead 2-1 before the Ice Pilots tied it for the second straight time. John Hecimovic picked up his 19th from Torry Gadja at 14:26 .

Just three minutes later, the Gladiators won a battle for the lose puck after a face-off inside the Ice Pilots zone -- and put the puck over the shoulder of Evan Lindsay to take the lead 3-2. The Ice Pilots pulled their goaltender in the final minute of play and couldn’t get the equalizer.
