QUADs.jpgMLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - LAKE ST. LOUIS , MO - Don Parsons of the United Hockey League’s (UHL) Quad City Mallards netted a historic goal on Wednesday night in a 4-2 win over the Bloomington PrairieThunder. He scored his 622nd career goal at 8:09 of the third period to tie him with Joe Mullen for first on the all-time professional goal scoring list amongst American-born players. The goal was his 37th of the season. A 38-year-old native of Boston , Massachusetts , Parsons is one of three American-born players to have scored 600 professional goals, and he is also the leading American-born goal scorer in minor professional hockey history. He trails Kevin Kerr (677 goals), head coach of the Flint Generals, by only 55 goals for first on the all-time minor league goal scoring list.

With the win, the Mallards clinched their 12th consecutive UHL post-season berth. Quad City used three first period goals plus the tally by Parsons to defeat Bloomington . In the first, Quad City took an early 1-0 lead on Brett Pilkington’s 25th goal of the year just 2:49 into the game. Bloomington evened the game about ten minuets later at 12:25 when Alex Goupil’s strike tied the score at 1-1. The Mallards used a pair of late first period goals by Derek Miller and Luke Stauffacher to take a 3-1 lead at the first intermission. After a scoreless second frame, Parsons’ goal gave Quad City a 4-1 advantage. Brad Thompson scored later in the third for the PrairieThunder, setting the game’s final margin at 4-2.
