MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Houston , TX – The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights set a franchise record for goals in a game, beating the Houston Aeros 10-2 on Saturday night at the Toyota Center . The Knights broke open the game with a six-goal second period that was fueled by four powerplay goals.

The Knights wasted little time taking the lead. Just 19 seconds in, they won a face-off in the Aeros’ zone. Brad Ference fired a shot from the right point. Goaltender Tony Quesada knocked it down but couldn’t control the rebound. Dustin Boyd (MLN FAB50 Hockey 2007 No. 21) collected the puck and fired home his 24th goal of the year.

The Aeros got into penalty trouble, and the Knights took advantage later in the period. Carsen Germyn set up defenseman Chris Lee for the powerplay goal that made it 2-0 after one.

The Knights began the second period with a powerplay, and Tim Ramholt (MLN FAB50 Hockey 2007 No. 47)  finished it off with a shot from the left point that slipped past Quesada. It was his second of the season.

The Aeros trimmed the lead to 3-1 when Joey Tetarenko scored off a scramble in front of Brent Krahn .

The Knights answered back while shorthanded. Andrei Taratukhin split through two defenders, lost the puck, retrieved it and fired a shot over the shoulder of Quesada to make it 4-1. That ended Quesada’s night.

Houston again cut into the Knights’ lead when Josh Olson knocked home a feed from Aaron Voros during a delayed penalty.

The Knights got the goal back when David Van der Gulik set up Germyn for a backdoor goal that made it 5-2.

The Aeros then started beating a path to the penalty box, and the Knights connected. First, Brad Ference fired home his third of the year while the Knights were up five on three. Then, Boyd connected on the ensuing five on four to make it 7-2.

Steve Marr finished the scoring when he scored his first American Hockey League goal. He tipped in a shot from Ference with just 30 seconds remaining in the period to put the Knights up by six after two.

Kris Chucko and Cam Cunning scored third period goals for the final. Taratukhin finished the game with a goal and four assists, setting a new team record for points in a game.
