MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Des Moines , IA The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights got two first period goals and held off the Iowa Stars 3-1 on Friday night at Wells Fargo Arena. The Knights got back into the win column and finished a four-game road trip at 3-1-0-0.

The Stars started briskly, outshooting the Ak-Sar-Ben Knights 7-0 in the first seven minutes of the period. The Knights weathered the storm and countered at 12:02. Chris Lee kept a clearing attempt in at the right point. His shot on goal dropped at the feet of goalie Dan Ellis. Before he could cover the puck, Chris Neiszner knocked it in for his second goal of the season.

The Knights doubled their lead late in the period. Dustin Boyd (MLN FAB50 Hockey 2007 No. 21) carried the puck down the right wing. He sent a rink-wide pass to defenseman Tim Ramholt (MLN FAB50 Hockey 2007 No. 47) who had jumped into the play. He drew Ellis out and then fed Carsen Germyn who hammered the puck into an empty net for his team-leading 27th goal of the year. Omaha led 2-0 after one.

That lead grew to 3-0 late in the second period. Iowa ’s Konstantin Pushkarev was given a five minute major for boarding and a game misconduct. With just nine seconds remaining in the penalty, Warren Peters knocked in the rebound of a shot from Neiszner for his 15th goal of the year.

Paul Szczechura ruined Brent Krahn ’s shutout bid when he converted a feed from Chris Connor at 6:59 of the third period. But the Stars would get no closer. Krahn finished with 32 saves to earn his 14th win of the year.

The Knights are now 43-23-4-1. They have won nine of their last ten road games and improved to 4-1-0-0 in Des Moines this season.
