The American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year Award For The Toronto Marlies Goes To Jeff Corey

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – The Toronto Marlies are proud to announce that right wing Jeff Corey has been named the team’s winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Greater Toronto community during the 2006-07 season.

Throughout the season, Corey has immersed himself within the GTA by making almost 20 team and non-team related appearances. A native of Boothwyn, Pennsylvania (a Philadelphia suburb), Corey was in attendance as the team launched their highly anticipated “The Goal is Fun” program (in conjunction with various minor hockey leagues) last November.

His dedication to those less fortunate earned him an invite to the Special Olympics Christmas Dinner in Toronto in early December. He was also an active participant at the team’s first visit to Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children in mid-February. In his first full season with the Maple Leafs’ affiliate, Corey was among team leaders in making weekly elementary school visits, helping the team promote their anti-bullying message campaign.

In recognition of his efforts, Corey will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to an upcoming Marlies home game.

Corey is now one of 27 finalists for the AHL’s 2006-07 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honouring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced later today.
