MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - DAYTON, OH (April 15, 2007) – Dayton went 4-for-7 on the man-advantage and six different Bomber players scored to down the Trenton Titans, 6-3 on Sunday afternoon at the Nutter Center.
The Bombers jumped all over the Titans early in the first period, scoring on
their first three power play chances and notching four goals over a span of
3:42. Corey Leclair opened the scoring at 6:12 of the first with a big
slapshot from the point that beat Gregg Naumenko for a power play goal.
Matt Herneisen struck a 1:36 later with another goal on the man-advantage as
he found a loose puck in the crease and open net into which to shoot it.
Dayton’s power play barrage finished at 9:12 of the period when Just Maiser
pulled out from behind the goalline and snuck a backhander to the near side.
Mike Berry then completed the Bombers’ first-period flurry as he was the
benefactor of a Trenton turnover behind the net and a perfect pass into the
slot from Yannick Tifu. Following the tally, goaltender Joel Martin came
into replace Naumenko, who left the contest with five saves on nine shots.
Trenton got onto the board at 13:19 of opening frame with the help of
Bombers’ defenseman Ryan Reid, as he tried to clear the puck out of the
crease and accidentally deflected it into his own net. Mike Manley was
given credit for the goal.
Tifu put his team back up by four with yet another power play marker, firing
a wrist shot from the wall past a screened Martin and inside near post 1:07
into the second.
The Titans cut into the Bombers’ lead once again with a breakaway goal by
Troy Riddle at 12:23 that made the score 5-2. Les Haggett got his team
within two, notching his first of the post season with 7:06 left in
regulation, but Trenton would be unable to pull any closer despite
outshooting Dayton 17-8 in the final frame
Martin stopped 21-of-22 in relief as the Titans went 0-for-6 on the power
play.
With the loss, the Titans fall behind 1-0 in the best-of-five North Division
Semifinal and look to gain a split with tomorrow night’s rematch. Game 2
between the Titans and Bombers takes place on Monday, April 16 at 7:00pm at
the Nutter Center.
