MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – HAMILTON, ON – The Hamilton Bulldogs had their four-game point streak snapped by the Toronto Marlies in a 4-1 loss on Sunday in front of a season-high crowd of 8,393 at Copps Coliseum. With the loss, the Bulldogs record drops to 40-25-3-5 through 73 games this season.
Hamilton opened the scoring 2:49 into the first frame when Corey Locke unleashed a wrist shot from the left faceoff circle that found the back of the net. Mathieu Biron and Matt D’Agostini earned helpers on Locke’s 19th marker of the season.
The Marlies responded with a pair of power-play goals before the end of the first period for a 2-1 lead. First, Alex Foster redirected a cross-ice pass to the far post at the 14:54 mark. Then, Staffan Kronwall’s shot from the blueline deflected off a Bulldogs defender past goalkeeper Phillipe Sauve with two minutes left in the frame. Kronwall and Karel Pilar earned assists on the first marker, while Colin Murphy and Brent Aubin registered helpers on the latter score.
Toronto’s third power-play goal of the game just 1:50 into the middle stanza made the score 3-1 and chased Sauve from the Hamilton net in favour of Yann Danis. Brett Engelhardt’s shot from the top of the circle hit the crossbar and deflected behind the ‘Dogs netminder for his 23rd goal of the campaign. The Marlies then closed out the scoring by adding a goal before the end of the second period at 4-1. Foster potted his second goal of game with a shot from the left wing at 16:17.
Hamilton was 0-for-7 on the power play, while the Marlies went 3-for-7 with the extra-man.
Bulldogs starting netminder Philippe Sauve (42 minutes) suffered the loss while stopping 22 of 25 shots and Yann Danis (18 minutes) made 7 saves on 8 shots in a second period relief. Marlies goalkeeper Justin Pogge made 20 saves on 21 shots for the win.
