MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Providence, RI – The Providence Bruins received goals from rookie forwards T.J. Trevelyan and David Krejci for the third straight game as they edged the Lowell Devils 2-1 Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. The win puts the P-Bruins back in third place in the American Hockey League’s Atlantic Division, one point ahead of the Worcester Sharks in fourth and five points back of the second spot Hartford Wolf Pack.
The scoring began late in the first period with Providence on the power play. The P-Bruins, already with five man-advantage scores in 11 chances this weekend, capitalized on their first of five opportunities on the day when Trevelyan received a pass in front of Devils goalie Frank Doyle and flicked the puck past the netminder for a 1-0 Providence lead. Sean Bentivoglio and Ben Walter, each riding three-game point-streaks, picked up the assists on the goal at the 14:54 mark.
The P-Bruins doubled their lead at 18:13 of the second period when Krejci batted home a Nathan Dempsey rebound for his team-leading 30th goal and 69th point. Pascal Pelletier had the second helper on a goal that came just one second after Providence’s fifth power play expired.
Lowell got its only score on Providence goaltender Hannu Toivonen at 6:15 of the third period, Chris Minard’s 29th goal of the year and second in as many days. The assists went to Tomas Harant and Petr Vrana.
In net, Toivonen had 24 saves for his 11th win while Doyle’s 32 stops could not prevent his 22nd loss. The P-Bruins out-shot the Devils 34-25 overall, including 12-5 in the second period. Meanwhile, Providence scored once on five power play chances while killing off its only minor penalty.
