Tyson Sexsmith of the Vancouver Giants Named ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Toronto - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Vancouver Giants goaltender Tyson Sexsmith is the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending April 1, 2007. Sexsmith posted three victories, including a shutout, in three playoff games during the week of March 26th to April 1st, allowing just two goals on 61 shots for a 0.67 goals against average and a .967 save percentage, helping the Giants win their best-of-seven Kal Tire Western Conference Quarter-Final series versus Chilliwack four games to one.
On Tuesday, March 27th, Sexsmith stopped all 18 shots he faced to record his first career playoff shutout as the Giants skated to a 4-0 win over the Bruins in Chilliwack in Game 3 of the series. On Wednesday, March 28th, Sexsmith stopped 19 of 20 shots as the visiting Giants managed a 5-1 victory in Chilliwack in Game 4 of the series. On Friday, March 30th, Sexsmith turned aside 22 of 23 shots to backstop the Giants to a 3-1 Game 5 victory over the visiting Bruins, clinching the series win.
Sexsmith , an 18-year-old native of Priddis , AB , is eligible for this year’s 2007 NHL Draft.
Goaltender Ondrej Pavelec of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles was the QMJHL nominee for the second consecutive week after posting a 1.20 goals against average and a .964 save percentage in two playoff games. The Screaming Eagles defeated the St. John’s Fog Devils 4-0 and advanced to the second-round of the playoffs. Sebastian Dahm of the Sudbury Wolves was the OHL goaltender nominee after he stopped 91 of 97 shots posting a 2.33 goals against average and a .929 save percentage leading the Wolves to three consecutive wins over the Mississauga IceDogs and a berth in the second-round of the playoffs.
