Chicago Wolves Brett Sterling Selected To AHL PlanetUSA All-Star Team
Friday, January 11, 2008 at 12:52AM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Chicago Wolves left wing BRETT STERLING, last season¹s American Hockey League Rookie of the Year, has been selected to the starting lineup of the PlanetUSA All-Star Team for the 2008 AHL All-Star Classic, presented by Reebok. He will join teammates JASON KROG and JOEL KWIATKOWSKI, who were named to the Canadian Team yesterday, marking the second consecutive year the Wolves will send three players to the midseason classic, which will take place at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton, N.Y., on Jan. 27 and 28.
STERLING was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2007 AHL All-Star Classic in Toronto after recording two goals and two assists to lead the PlanetUSA squad to a 7-6 victory over the Canadian Team in his rookie All-Star appearance last year.
The 23-year-old forward ranks third in the AHL with 21 goals and holds third on Chicago with 34 points in 28 games this season. He made his National Hockey League debut with the Atlanta Thrashers earlier this year, notching his first NHL goal and two assists in 10 outings with the Wolves parent club.
The Los Angeles native shares seventh on Chicago’s all-time goal-scoring list with 76 markers in just 105 career tilts in a Wolves uniform. Last season, he was named the recipient of the Willie Marshall Award after leading the AHL with 55 goals, the most by a Wolves player in eight years and the fourth-highest total in franchise history, and the 2006-07 Dudley ³Red² Garrett Memorial Award as the AHL¹s outstanding rookie. He paced the league with 21 power-play goals and ranked third overall with 97 points during his professional debut and was named to the 2006-07 First All-Star and All-Rookie teams.
Overall, STERLING has tallied 131 points (76G, 55A) in 105 career AHL games with Chicago during his two-year pro career.
