MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com – PRESCOTT VALLEY, Arizona — Arizona used a three-goal third period to beat New Mexico 6-5 Saturday night. The win pushed the Sundogs four points ahead of the Scorpions in the Southwest Division.
The Scorpions got off to another fast start in Tim’s Toyota Center. Chris Robertson shot the puck into the legs of goalie Rob McVicar, but McVicar could not squeeze it. Later in the period, Robertson stole the puck inside the Sundogs zone and had daylight in front. Robertson capitalized and gave his team the 2-0 lead after one period of play.
Arizona got on the board early in the second period as Dusty Collins when coast-to-coast for his 17th goal of the season. The Scorpions answered on the power play as Craig Macdonald’s wrist shot went in just under the crossbar.

Just as the home team used their power plays to their advantage, the visitors did the same late in the middle period. With Alex Leavitt in the box with a double minor, the Scorps took advantage. Vladimir Hartinger used his potent slap shot, giving the Scorps back the lead at the 19:08 mark. With just seconds remaining, Konrad Reeder elevated the puck up and into the net giving New Mexico a 5-3 lead after two periods.
Arizona came out a different team in the third period and scored three unanswered goals. Kevin Cormier scored a power play goal at the 6:01 mark. Mark Kolanos tied the game up with his 26th goal of the season just past the midway point. Sellan struck again, this time for the game winner 13:18 into the third period.
