New Mexico Scorpions Block Arizona Sundogs, Win 7-4 - CHL

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - [ PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz.] — In a game that featured 34 combined power plays, the Scorpions beat Arizona 7-4 Saturday.  The win moved the Scorps to within two points of first place.

For the third straight game the Scorpions got on the board first.  Chris Robertson remained hot as he scored with a wrist shot from between the circles.

The Sundogs have excelled on the power play all season and they showed why again in the opening frame.  Cory Urquhart found room in front of the Scorps net and was able to slide it past goaltender Mike Minard, tying the game at one.

New Mexico responded less than two minutes later.  Konrad Reeder found a rebound and put it in the net before goalie Marco Emond was able to recover.  The Scorpions then extended their lead when Reeder delivered a perfect pass from behind to the net to Robertson.  Robertson received the puck and shot it all in one motion, giving the New Mexico the 3-1 lead.

The second period was full of power play for both teams.  Arizona's Dan Laperriere scored 4:33 with his team on the power play.

Arizona became unglued racking up penalties and adding to it with abuse of officials minors as well.  The Scorpions were given two-man advantage after two-man advantage and made the most of it.

Robertson picked up the hat trick at the 7:13 mark.  Hartinger extended the Scorpions lead just 30-seconds later.  Still with two extra men on the ice, Reeder picked up his second goal of the game, moving the Scorps lead to 6-2.

As expected the Sundogs were given their chances on the power play.  Alex Leavitt scored at the 15:28, with his team on a two-man advantage.  One minute later the Sundogs were still up two players as Chris Bartolone’s slap shot found the back of the net, cutting the Scorpions lead to two goals after two periods of play.

The third period featured more penalties but only the Scorpions took advantage.  Aaron MacInnis finished the night’s scoring with New Mexico ’s fifth power play goal on the evening.
