Manchester Monarchs Defeat Lowell Devils with 1-0 Shutout, Only Second Win in Nine Tries
Monday, March 17, 2008 at 01:14PM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – LOWELL, Mass. – For just the second time in nine meetings this season, the Lowell Devils were defeated by the Manchester Monarchs, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Tsongas Arena.
Though the last three games of the season-series – all won by the Devils – had been high-scoring affairs, this contest quickly turned into a goaltending duel between Lowell’s Dave Caruso and Manchester’s Jonathan Quick.
The first two periods went without a goal by either team, but the Monarchs were able to finally break the scoreless tie 1:52 into the third. After the Devils failed to clear their zone, Manchester defenseman Troy Milam sauced a puck from the blueline that changed direction twice before diving down past Caruso.

ADVERTISEMENT The would be the only offense the Monarchs would need as Jonathan Quick earned the shutout with his 27-save performance. Caruso went on to stop 26-of-27 for Lowell in the loss. The contest featured only one penalty called, a hooking minor to Brian Boyle that resulted in a first period man-advantage for the Devils.
Both of Manchester’s wins against the Devils season have been shutouts, the last coming on a 4-0 decision on January 25 at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Lowell had outscored the Monarchs 16-7 in their three previous meetings.
